Our Learning:
We did our stories of our characters. How they got their things that they were missing. ~Malcolm We're drawing our animal that has something missing. ~Iman That's why I made the turtle. ~Harrison We made Ipods and it was about our doubles song. It's made out of paper and it's pretend. When we press play it's actually on the SMARTboard. ~Armaan We are learning about doubles. ~Saavan Like 2+2, 4+4, 5+5. ~Ali We did oral stories about our animals that we like. ~Lana We're learning about things that live and non-live. ~Maddie We're saving plastic stuff and styrofoam stuff so we can save the earth for Earth Day and everyday! ~Wyatt We walked outside and put our artifacts back into Mother Earth. We can't just keep it or it will just have to throw it away. ~Armaan When we threw them away there was only one that was alive and it was a spider. We made pictures for Earth Day when we came back to school. ~Maddie The spider was staying inside there for along time. He was super sad. When we went out we got a little bit of time to go onto the playground. ~Malcolm The spider's name was Olaf. ~Madison Coming Up: - Students will continue to work on their very own oral story next week. - We will continue to work on math strategies for addition and subtraction up to 20. The strategies we have already explored are: drawing pictures, using manipulatives, using 10-frames, doubles. Students were very excited to create their own Ipods that hold their doubles flashcards. Please practice these at home! - Movie Night is next Thursday, May 2 at 6:30pm. * Please remind your child that our Flex Entry time in the morning is meant for students who need some extra time or some calming time before school begins. Our Learning: We shared about our artifacts to our table group. We told about how old they were and where we got them and we all listened. Then we drew them. ~Maddie Everyone brought an artifact from home that represents their family. ~Marshall We're retelling a story about Country Mouse and Town Mouse. ~Ali We made Town Mouse and Country Mouse puppets. ~Charleigh We got to colour the Town Mouse and Country Mouse puppets and we're going retell the story with our buddies. ~Armaan We made puppets so we could retell the story because it's an important job to retell stories in Grade One. ~Malcolm I write about the Nutcracker. ~Harrison We can't bring any wrappers to school because we're helping the environment so we have to bring containers to put our food in. ~Amina Only you can bring containers. ~Iman Our classroom was the cleanest classroom in the school so we got the GOLDEN GARBAGE CAN!! ~Dexten Today is our last day with the Golden Garbage Can. We only get it for a week. There is one for Division 1 and one for Division 2. ~Wyatt We did subtraction. ~Prince We can draw our artifacts. ~Anna We did subtraction and addition and we used a pizza and a hot chocolate cup. When we were done math we got to colour the hot chocolate and the pizza. ~Armaan We used manipulatives to make subtraction and addition from hot chocolate and a pizza. ~Malcolm We walked around the room and we were finding some math questions on addition and subtraction. ~Lana Next Week: - Mrs. Alm will be away next week from Monday - Thursday. - Ms. Allegro's last day with us will be on Thursday. - There isn't any school on Friday, April 19 and Monday, April 22. Back to school on Tuesday, April 23. - There won't be any word family homework next week. - Thank you for sending artifacts or pictures of your artifacts! These items are amazing and students are so proud to share their family history. Students will be working on oral storytelling with these artifacts next week and then they will be returned by the end of the week. - Thank you for all of your hard work sending litter-less lunches with your child! Thank you to everyone who is helping our school move into Litterless Lunches! Students are very proud of reducing the amount of litter they are leaving at school. :)
The Grade One field trip to the Calgary Tower this week gave students a first-hand look at our downtown urban community from different perspectives. They took part in a high elevation scavenger hunt that allowed them to see many of our city’s landmarks and learn about their importance. Students were also able to learn many facts about how the tower was constructed. A trip to the Calgary Tower wouldn’t be complete without attempting to step on the glass floor viewing deck. Students may have been a bit apprehensive at first but by the end of our visit they were completely comfortable walking, jumping and even laying down on the glass! As one student pointed out, “I was so comfortable I could have slept there!” Our Learning: We did assembly. ~Nicolas We started Litterless Lunches. ~Saavan We saw Elder Shirley. ~Dany We had music and played a game with Grade 3's. ~Tathya We went on the Calgary Tower field trip to go on the glass floor. ~Malcolm We went to the Calgary Tower and learned that it is the 6th tallest. It's not the tallest anymore. ~Anna We sketched stuff from outside and we sketched in our visual journals. ~Armaan We went on a nature walk and Elder Shirley came with us. She let us touch some of the things that we brought. She gave us seeds to put on Mother Earth. ~Wyatt We got new math centres. Mrs. Alm brought shells from the beach. ~Armaan We're starting golden garbage cans for Litterless lunch. ~Nicolas We made our own version of 10 for Dinner by Jo Ellen Bogart because we did it for math. ~Malcolm On Thursday we introduced our new math centres. ~Makayla Next Week: - Litterless Lunches continue! - Word family homework going home on Monday - Home reading exchange on Wednesday - Addition and subtraction strategies - Return family questionnaire on Wednesday and please send an artifact too if you're able. Otherwise, send me a photo through email and I'll print it! [email protected] |
