Thank you for all the generous donations collected for the Terry Fox run!!! So far we have raised $373.50!!! We will continue to raise more funds through until Friday. Congrats HOPE for being our Biscotti Kid of the day MONDAY. FYI/Upcoming -We raised 373.50 for Terry Fox Marathon of Hope with proceeds being donated to Cancer research. We are continuing to collect twoonies for Terry until next Friday, where we will do a school wide count. -Grey forms are student demographics. Please review and make sure all information is updated and correct. Please return asap. -Monday is Orange Shirt Day http://www.orangeshirtday.org where we at Hawkwood wear Orange to acknowledge that every child matters, and honor our pledge of reconciliation and hope for future generations. -Library Books are due Oct.3 -Home Reading: Make sure to go on Raz Kids - this is the Reading Program. In math we are learning about patterns, and in Science we are exploring color, the seasons & the natural world around us to see if we can find patterns in nature! During our community walk we will collect natural items and like Andy Goldworthy see if we can create beautiful, natural patterns. Math site to explore making patterns with shapes: Pattern Blocks / Math Playground https://www.mathplayground.com/patternblocks.html In Literacy we are focusing on sorting the alphabet to bring meaning to the organization, and purpose of the alphabet. We are using Lively Letters to learn about the sounds each letter makes using stories, songs, actions and drawing. In Health we are beginning to explore identifying personal emotions using Tribes Tribbles. We are also beginning to examine nutrition and healthy foods. Homework: RAz kids, orange shirt Monday

What a glorious, beautiful Fall day! We enjoyed our community walk & got to spend time with our popsicle friends exploring patterns and making land art. Remember this Friday is our Terry Fox assembly and run! Don't forget your Twoonies for Terry! FYI/Upcoming -Terry Fox run is this Friday. The Muffin Breakfast will be at the start of school, and we will be teaming up with our Grade 3 buddies from Miss Spelay's class to do the run. - We are collecting "Twoonies for Terry" and/or pledges for your child to help support cancer research. Our Learning: Grade One's had a splendid walk to the Ravine today, exploring natural patterns in nature as well as creating our own "land art". We were thankful for the lovely weather! In Daily 5 we worked on writing, and are beginning to develop an understanding for independent writing practice and how to set up our pages. In math we explored sorting rules by one attribute, and using pattern blocks we chose a shape and/or color that was different than all the others. We worked on printing the letter 'b' and practiced for the Terry Fox run. Whats Up in Grade one?!? Show how you print the letters 'p' and 'b' using describing words like 'dive down' and 'swim up' and 'around' Dear Parents, Grade 1 is heading out for a second COMMUNITY WALK tomorrow to create a natural pattern! Read the FYI section for details. FYI/Upcoming -TOMORROW IS A COMMUNITY WALK!!! We are hunting for patterns in nature. Make sure you wear proper walking gear - pants, comfortable shoes, layered clothes, as well as outdoor gear such as a hat, and mittens. Bring a water bottle.
